Photography Tips
Get In Close
Want to really capture your subject? Get in close. This minimizes background distraction and allows you to really "see" your subject. Make sure you keep your cameras minimum focusing distance in mind so your photo isn't blurry.
Use the Fill Flash on Your Camera
Most cameras have a Fill Flash or Daylight flash and this should be used especially when shooting outdoors. Using the Fill Flash can help eliminate shadows and improve the appearance of your subjects when used outdoors.
Really Look At Your Background
When taking your photos really look at what is in the background. Too many times people have tress or telephone poles literally growing out of their heads which can ruin an otherwise perfect shot. Sometimes just shifting your camera angle slightly or tightening the shot can really improve your image.
Shoot at the Eye Level Of Your Subject
This is especially important with children and pets. When you get down on their level they will appear more natural and the shot will be more interesting. Another great trick to try is to get down really low and shoot up at them. They will appear larger than life!
Choose the Right Camera Orientation
Don't shoot everything horizontal. Shots of single people or small groups are much better formatted if shot vertically. It eliminates unnecessary background images and makes for a more intimate photograph.
